A note on "frequency cancellation"

Some Rife machines claim to use a principle known as "frequency cancellation" or "destructive interference", which involves sending an opposite waveform to cancel out or neutralize a specific frequency pattern. This concept is based on the idea of resonant frequency and is a central tenet in some of the work of Dr. Royal Raymond Rife.

How it Works in Theory:

  • Resonant Frequency: Every cell, pathogen, and tissue in the body has a specific resonant frequency, which is essentially the natural frequency at which it vibrates. When a frequency matching the resonant frequency of a target (like a pathogen or virus) is applied, it can disrupt or damage that target.
  • Opposite Waveform / Inverse Frequency: To cancel out a pathogenic frequency, some Rife machines utilize the concept of destructive interference. By sending out a frequency that is exactly opposite (or 180 degrees out of phase) to the target pathogen's frequency, the two waves supposedly cancel each other out. This is similar to how sound waves can be cancelled when two opposing sound waves meet in phase opposition.

The goal of this cancellation process is to neutralize the harmful effects of the target frequency without causing harm to surrounding healthy tissue. Proponents suggest that this process can effectively destroy harmful microorganisms (like bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites) or correct imbalances in the body.

Dear Reader, while the first part is true (resonant frequencies exist at all scales, especially in resonant cavities like we find in living systems), I regret to tell you that the second part is absolute nonsense.

Frequency cancellation, in the strictest physical sense, applies to one-dimensional waveforms and isn't directly applicable in the way some Rife machines claim, especially when we're talking about complex biological systems in three-dimensional space.

Why it doesn't apply in 3D:

  1. Wave Interference: The concept of destructive interference works well in one-dimensional scenarios, such as sound waves in a medium like air or light waves in a vacuum. These waves can cancel each other out if they meet in opposition (i.e., their peaks and troughs align in opposite phases). This is straightforward in systems where waves propagate in a single direction.
  2. Complexity in Biological Systems: Biological tissues and pathogens exist in 3D space, and their resonant frequencies are not confined to a single direction. When we consider biological systems, the complexity increases because:
    • The waves generated by biological tissues (or any other material) are spread out and interact in all three dimensions of space.
    • The way biological tissues respond to frequencies is not a simple wave interaction, especially since tissues have varying densities, conductive properties, and structural characteristics.
  3. Non-Sinusoidal Waves: Biological systems, when subjected to frequency, don't just interact with simple sine waves. Instead, the response of tissues can vary widely across frequency ranges, and even non-linear interactions take place, which makes precise cancellation of frequencies impractical.

Misapplication in Rife Devices:

In the case of Rife devices that claim to send an "opposite waveform," this principle of cancelling frequencies isn't technically feasible in the same way it works for simple sound waves in a 1D space. The claims regarding the cancellation of a pathogen's resonant frequency by sending an opposite waveform are based on oversimplified principles.

In real-world application, the opposite waveform doesn't necessarily cancel out the disease-causing organism in the body. Instead, it might interfere with biological tissues in unintended ways.

Rife machines are based on the notion that frequency matches a resonant frequency of a pathogen, but this is not as straightforward as just "sending a wave opposite" in a 3D biological environment. In reality, it works solely on the resonance principle.

The concept of frequency cancellation in three-dimensional systems like human bodies, where waves interact in complex ways across different layers of tissue and in diverse environments, does not function in the way that one-dimensional wave interference would. So, while the theory of resonant frequency for pathogens has scientific grounding, frequency cancellation as applied by many Rife devices is not a scientifically feasible or valid approach in 3D biological systems.

While this common misconception stems from a lack of wave mechanics knowledge, it is important to note that the underlying efficiency of Rife's -- and others, like Van Gelder's -- frequencies have been validated by more than 100 years of practice.

Integration in BioCoherence

BioCoherence includes Rife, Van Gelder and Bioresonance frequencies as one of its sources for the integrated protocols. The way BioCoherence delivers the frequencies differ, however:

  • by delivering them to the body both as audio pressure waves (sound) and electromagnetic waves (carried by the headphones);
  • by integrating them in a specific, harmonic way, so that its different frequencies strengthen each other;
  • by encoding them over the specific resonance frequencies of the targeted system, so that the intended protocol reaches directly its intended target with more strength and accuracy.
